Focus of the group

Autoimmune bullous diseases are conditions characterized by the presence of skin lesions in the form of blisters or bullae. The formation of these blisters is due to the destruction of cellular or extracellular adhesion molecules by antibodies acting against adherence proteins within the skin or specific structure of the skin.
Multiple disorders fall within the scope of autoimmune bullous diseases, according to the location of the blister they are classified as intraepidermal or subepidermal.

These conditions are low prevalence but most of them lead to extreme morbidity, pain and some may be fatal. Patients suffering from these conditions need extra care and follow-up from caregivers from multiple medical units. The thematic group dedicated to Autoimmune Bullous diseases aims to offer the expertise of specialists from intensive Care Unit or Burn Unit, Ophthlamology, Pneumology, Urology, Gynecology, Otorhino-Laryngology etc. and works daily on training medical staff on pain management,  follow-up of sequelae, and more specific cares like mouth and other mucous membrane care or management of scars.
